National Aboriginal Outreach Program

Actua’s National Aboriginal Outreach Program supports the development and delivery of science, engineering and technology camps, workshops and community outreach initiatives to young Aboriginal Canadians. Through our community-based approach, we deliver confidence-building programming that is locally and culturally relevant. We expose youth to Aboriginal role models and other young and energetic mentors in a variety of science fields and demonstrate how traditional knowledge plays a significant role in the study of science.

The National Aboriginal Outreach Program helps address the urgent need to engage Aboriginal Canadians in STEM fields, both to ensure future prosperity within Aboriginal communities and to contribute to the creation of a diverse Canadian workforce.

Our key to success is engaging community leaders, including teachers, Elders, parents and local volunteers to help us shape and deliver the curriculum. It is critical that all activities meet the needs of youth in their respective communities. By partnering with community organizations such as friendship centres, hamlet offices, community learning centres, cultural associations and schools, Actua maximizes its capacity to efficiently and effectively reach Aboriginal youth audiences. Actua is now partnered with over 200 Aboriginal community organizations across Canada, and each year we engage over 20,000 Aboriginal youth through our programs.
