What is a Member?

Actua members are science and engineering outreach organizations located at universities and colleges in every corner of the country, from Victoria to Iqaluit to Antigonish.  They share a commitment to breaking barriers to youth participation in STEM studies and careers. Actua member organizations are usually housed and supported within the faculty of engineering or science at their respective host institution. The majority of member organizations have full-time Directors and harness the energy and enthusiasm of undergraduate students who act as role models and instructors delivering the workshops and camps.  Each year, Actua members employ over 600 undergraduate students and benefit from over 500 high school student volunteers.

Although there is a significant sharing of resources and content across Actua members, all local programs are customized by our members to meet their local community needs. Keeping with Actua’s vision to inspire all children with STEM, no matter their location or socio-economic situation, our members make it a priority to take their programs off-campus and on-the-road, bringing camps and workshops to hundreds of rural and remote communities.
