Actua in The North

Each year, Actua delivers programming in communities throughout The North, including the Northwest Territories, Yukon Territory, Nunavut, Northern Québec and Newfoundland and Labrador through hundreds of school workshops and many weeks of summer camps.  Actua is also proud to have two members in The North – the Nunavut Arctic College and Yukon College – and together with our Outreach Team, Actua is annually reaching approximately 75 communities North of 55°.

We are also committed to employing Northern youth as instructors in our programs.  In the past a partnership with the Nunavut Sivuniksavut program made it possible for us to engage Inuit youth as assistant instructors in our Northern camps. These partnerships are crucial to the delivery of locally-relevant programming. For more information, please see our Actua in the North website.

The following are some of the communities reached by Actua in The North:

Yukon Territory: Carcross, Carmacks, Dawson, Faro, Haines Junction, Liard River First Nation, Mayo, Old Crow, Pelly Crossing, Ross River, Teslin, Watson Lake, Whitehorse

Northwest Territories: Aklavik, Fort Smith, Inuvik, Tuktoyaktuk, Yellowknife, Rae-Edzo, Fort Simpson

Nunavut: Apex, Arviat, Baker Lake, Cambridge Bay, Chesterfield Inlet, Coral Harbour, Gjoa Haven, Hall Beach, Igloolik, Iqaluit, Kimmirut, Kugaaruk, Kugluktuk, Pangnirtung, Qikiqtarjuaq, Rankin Inlet, Repulse Bay, Whale Cove

Québec: Kuujjuaraapik, Whapmagoostui First Nation, Cree Nation of Chisasibi

Newfoundland and Labrador: Cornerbrook, Goulds, Hopedale, Makkovik, Nain, Postville

The Actua program is very beneficial to our community. It shows the kids the career possibilities in science. My son attended the camp, for the first time, and he loved it. He couldn't wait to get up in the morning to go to camp. There wasn't just one activity that stood out - he loved them all! After participating in camp, he now says that he wants to take science in school.”
