Actua is thrilled to have been invited by the Government of Canada to participate in this country’s sesquicentennial celebrations in 2017. Heritage Canada has recently announced a significant grant to support a nation-wide innovation tour, which will engage youth, families, and communities across the country in 2016-2017. The tour is called Innovation150 and will involve Actua and four other leading innovation organizations in Canada: Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, the Canadian Association of Science Centres, the Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation, and the Institute for Quantum Computing at the University of Waterloo.  The tour will provide Canadians with unprecedented access to the latest advancements in science and technology through traveling exhibitions, major city-wide festivals, a touring Maker Mobile and dynamic online opportunities.

The Actua Maker Mobile

Actua’s contribution to the Innovation150 tour will be through a Maker Mobile that will travel across Canada bringing maker-space experiences to approximately 80 cities and towns across all 13 provinces and territories, including Canada’s Far North.  There will be a focus through the tour on reaching under-served communities. Actua's Maker Mobile is a moving maker space full of exciting technology like 3D printers, a laser cutter, programmable circuit boards and more, allowing participants to experiment with hands-on learning and to create their own innovations. Activities will appeal to all ages, with workshops tailored accordingly.
